from PMS Club: Peanut butter recall

News article on WebMD:

Peanut Butter Product Recall List Grows

FDA: Don't Eat Products Containing Peanut Butter or Peanut Paste That Might Be Tied to Salmonella Outbreak

By Miranda Hitti
WebMD Health News

Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

Jan. 20, 2009 -- The list of recalled products containing peanut butter continues to grow in the wake of the salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 475 people in 43 states and Canada.

The outbreak strain of Salmonella typhimurium may have contributed to six deaths, according to the CDC.

Yesterday, the FDA confirmed that the source of the outbreak is peanut butter and peanut paste made by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) at its Blakely, Ga., processing plant.

PCA's products aren't sold to grocery stores. PCA only sells peanut butter to institutions and food manufacturers. Some food makers use PCA's peanut butter or peanut paste to make products including crackers, cookies, cakes, cereal, candy, and ice cream.

The FDA's web site has a list of recalls related to the salmonella outbreak. As of this morning, there were 16 recall notices on that web site from companies including Clif Bar & Company, Kroger, Kellogg Company, PCA, and others.

But that may not be the full list; more products could be recalled. So for now, the FDA advises consumers not to eat commercially prepared products containing peanut butter or peanut paste, or peanut butter served at institutions, unless they're sure that those products don't contain PCA peanut butter or peanut paste.

The FDA reminds consumers to throw out recalled products in a manner that prevents others from eating those items, and to see a health care provider if you think you got sick from eating peanut butter.

prayer request

Please pray for PMS sister Aimee Dison’s dad, Les Gray.  He had heart surgery Sunday for a 99% blockage, and hopefully he’ll come home today, but he still has two more blockages that will need attention in the future.  He’s also a heavy smoker and he’s trying to quit, so they need added prayers!  He’s 63 years old.

Fwd: Fw: Haylie Has a Temperature

Nancy, I would like to submit a name for the prayer list. This girl, Haylie Birkhead, is Doyle's great niece in Dallas. She had a lung transplant almost 2 years ago,as a result of Cystic Fibrosis and has done well until now. You can read the E-mail her grandmother sent this morning begging for prayer.

Thanks , Carolyn McGrew

Subject: Haylie Has a Temperature

As you all know Haylie has been sick for a month now and in the hospital.  They took her gall bladder out and it did nothing for her.  They have done all kinds of scans, tests and you name it, they've done it and still cannot find the cause of her nausea and cramping and vomiting.  Just a few minutes ago she told me she is running a temp.  We don't need an infection.  Please pray for her healing.  She is very afraid and I ask that you concentrate on this temp and her fear.  You are the best.

Update on this morning's prayer request

From PMS Sis Jean H:

Charles Bourne had surgery on December tenth and came home on Saturday. He is doing okay, but in a lot of pain. Everyone is hoping he will get to at least go to Nancy's wedding [his daughter]. The first of the year they will start radiation on him and they are trying to get that set up in Alexandria; he will have to take it
for six weeks. Please keep him and all his family in your prayers.

Urgent Prayer Request

Dear PMS Sisters,
The prayer request below was forwarded to me by Robin.  When I got to the end of the message, and read the name Charles Bourne, I was quite surprised.  I know Charles - we were co-workers for several years, but haven't been in touch since.  Charles always met me with a friendly greeting, and my day was brightened whenever we had a chance to visit.  Please lift him, his family, and his doctors to the Lord in prayer.
Thanks, Sisters!
Nancy

In the summer I had tried to email all of you about my friend/co-worker's daddy having a brain tumor.  She just came to me and said that his check-up was today and it is back.  4 weeks ago there was nothing there on his MRI!  She asked again that everyone please pray as they go in for brain surgery again! Her sister is getting married next Saturday (wedding was moved up because of what went on in the summer) so now they are afraid of what might happen.  There is no good time for something like this to happen, but this really is making it all harder.  Please pray! His name is Charles Bourne. Get this prayer-chain started ASAP!!

Fw: answered prayers

Dear Sisters,
Back in July when our church hosts our annual Bible Conference, our
pastor's grandson Sam was really having some serious health concerns.
He was 18 months at the time and losing weight daily, couldn't keep
anything down, etc. Brother Roger and his wife Sandy wanted me to send
Sam's picture so you could SEE an answered prayer! Little Sam is doing
well, they've diagnosed him with some type of esophagus problem that is
like an allergy and are treating him with success! Little Sam has been
putting weight back on and is doing well. Thank you all for praying for
him!

Praise Report!

From PMS Sister Kandi:

Hello sisters! Good news from the doctor and radiologist! I got an all
clear from them! Praise the Lord! Thank you all so much for praying for
me!

Prayer Requests

Please pray for David, the 7-yr old son of our Sis Robin.  He is in the hospital since yesterday because of a persistent fever and dehydration.  It is not strep or mono; the doctor thinks it must be viral. Robin says he's looking better, but still running a fever.

Also, please remember our friend Angela Bridges, she is expecting, and according to ultrasound, the baby is fine, but there is not enough amniotic fluid.

Thanks for all your prayers, Sisters!

Prayer Request

From Sis Robin here in Louisiana:

My Daddy (Bro. Doyle McGrew, pastor of Goldonna Baptist Church) is having surgery next Thursday.  He has a very deep skin cancer on his ear, so they're going to cut part of it out and graft some skin back.  He'll have to stop taking his blood thinner Saturday so that he won't bleed excessively.during the surgery.  There is a fear that he could have another stroke without his thinner.  He told me y-day that he was extremely tired and that he wasn't feeling quite right.  Please pray for him, his family and his doctors.

From our Sister Kandi in Oklahoma:

>I would like my sisters in Christ to pray for me. Tuesday I had my

I have a coworker, Kellie Williamson, whose father has cancer.  He was sent home from the hospital last week with Hospice and told that there was nothing else that could be done.  She asks that we pray for him and for their family.  His name is Jessie McClain.
Thanks,
